<image:title>Newsletter - Ten Years Later - The idea was simple: take a piece of land where Phillip had a small tin metal structure with three apartment units, and help him build six sturdy, cement cinderblock apartment units. These new homes would not only give residents peace of mind and improved sanitation but would also empower Phillip with a sustainable business. By renting the units at an affordable $40/month (USD), he could earn income to support his family and send his children to school.</image:title>

<image:title>Newsletter - Ten Years Later - We want to give a heartfelt thank you to our key donors who dared to believe in this vision with us: John Frize of John Christopher Construction (Newport Beach, CA) and Jennifer Matthews Fox (Redlands, CA).</image:title>

<image:title>Newsletter - Ten Years Later - And friends, it worked! It was a dream come true moment! Phillip’s children have all graduated, their education funded by this housing project. Even more amazing is that Phillip repaid the original loan in full. That means those funds are now being recycled into new micro-development projects just like this one. We call this empowerment through reinvestment or social entrepreneurship! It’s not charity, it’s empowerment. It’s dignity. It’s sustainability.</image:title>

<image:title>Newsletter - Grace in the Shadows - A Glimpse into the Slums of Kenya - Catherine grew up in this very slum. She gave us a tour of her old home and introduced us to nearly everyone we passed. She proudly showed us her vegetable stand—the fruit of her resilience and faith. It’s amazing to see how far she’s come, now a business woman providing for her family. She beamed with joy, full of the light of Jesus. We met the women who raised her after she lost her parents—her surrogate mothers, who embraced us like family. We gave them small gifts celebrating their sacrifice and investment in our friend.</image:title>

<image:title>Newsletter - Grace in the Shadows - A Glimpse into the Slums of Kenya - We were also blessed with the opportunity to visit a sick Mama in New Song’s church family, Mama Joyce. We brought a care package to her and prayed together. She is requiring ongoing medical costly treatment for her illness. Through your support we blessed her with $100 USD. Please keep this sweet woman in your prayers.</image:title>

<image:title>Newsletter - What Love Can Build - Mama Theresia is much the same—overflowing with love. With six children of her own, she still is willing to foster a teenage child. Her motto seems to be, “There’s always room for one more.” Undoubtedly, she is making a life-long impact on this young woman’s life. Of course, before we could leave, Mama Theresia insisted on blessing us with a bag of local fruits. She said, “when you visit a Kenyan’s home you must leave with something.” What seemed like a small act, exemplified the profound hospitality of the Kenyan people. Her generosity towards us and those around her reflects the heart of God, faithful and other-centered.</image:title>

<image:title>Newsletter - What Love Can Build - Catherine lives in a small one room apartment with her two daughters, Barbara (20) and Nicole (18). And although raising her two biological daughters has its challenges, her heart is big and she also fosters Tabitha, a vibrant nine-year-old girl. In Kenya, there is no government support for fostering children. Unlike in the U.S., families like Catherine’s take this on entirely by faith—covering every need out of their own limited resources. Yet Catherine didn’t hesitate. Her home may be humble, but the joy inside is unmistakable. During our visit we laughed, the girls taught Jordan some dance moves, and Jordan and I showed them our salsa skills. We felt completely at home. Catherine's smile is bright and her laugh is incredibly contagious!</image:title>
